The automaker reiterates its commitment to making roads safer

Nissan Canada has just announced that eight of its 2018 models will include a standard automatic emergency braking system. The models are the Nissan Rogue, Altima, Murano, LEAF, Pathfinder, Armada, Maxima and Sentra, though manual-transmission and NISMO versions are excepted.

As pointed out by Bert Brooks, senior manager, Product Planning, Nissan Canada, Inc., these are the brand’s most popular models in Canada. A few versions of the new Nissan Qashqai will come with the system as well.

The sophisticated safety technology uses radar to monitor the distance separating the vehicle and the one in front of it. If it detects a potential collision, auditory and visual signals are given to warn the driver to slow down. If this does not happen, the system automatically apply brakes avoid a collision, or at least reduce the impact of any that does occur.

According to the American National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), automatic emergency braking and other similar technologies can help reduce the number of post-collision injuries leading to insurance claims by 35%.

The inclusion of the system is part of the automaker’s larger Intelligent Mobility plan, which aims to completely reimagine the way cars are powered, driven and integrated into society. A major long-term objective of the initiative is to fully eliminate both polluting emissions and fatal road accidents.
